Alex Bushue

Years on Thunderbird Staff: 2

Classes I Teach at Camp:: Jazz, Novelty, Kicks, and Technique

Dance Training: I started dancing at age three: jazz, ballet, and tap (my teacher was a former Rockette and didn't believe hip hop was lady like so she didn't offer it). At Western Oregon University I earned a minor in dance while taking tap, jazz, hip hop (finally), modern, African, Hula, and even a little dancing on stilts (it's a long story).

Performance Experience: Several embarrassing recitals, some "cool" recitals, all home basketball and football game half times, the Spring Dance concert at W.O.U, and even a few years in the Portland Rose Parade with my middle school dance team. I was the captain in 8th grade and we did a Blazer themed routine called "Bingo Bango Bongo Baby" decked out with blazer sunglasses, sky high bangs, and scrunchies bejeweled with alternating black and red sequins. It's probably my proudest moment.

Choreography/Teaching Experience: I began coaching as an assistant with The Central High Sensations. After college, I started the dance team at Valley Catholic High School, the Charisma. Then, I moved a little north to be the head coach of The Westivew Wildthings Varsity Dance Team and advisor for the JV Widthings. During all this time, I also spent 7 years as head dance instructor at the Anthony Newman Camp Spirit Nike Cheer Camp.  Since "retiring" from coaching I have had the privilege to advise and or/ choreograph for: The Gladstone Gladettes, The Scappoose Vision Dancers, The Glencoe Tide, The Banks Lady Braves, The Parkrose Elite, and of course my beloved Westview Wildthings.

Current Dance Related Job: Currently I am working on my 11th year teaching in the Beaverton School District. I spent 9 amazing years teaching grades 4/5 and am on my second year teaching high school: health, child development, reading recovery, leadership, and I am the school's Activities Director.   I am also currently teaching master classes at Synergy Dance Studio (jazz, contemporary, beginning and advanced technique), line dance for Girl Scouts of America (Camp Mountaindale), and am hoping people will love me enough to let me crash as many dance practices as I can next year. I love dance team and can't stay away!
